Speaker Bio
Dr. Lee N. Sheldon is a periodontist with over four decades of clinical and teaching experience whose work has focused on one fundamental principle: root cleanliness. Early in his career, he recognized that the primary goal of periodontal therapy—rendering the root surface biologically acceptable—was often limited by blind instrumentation, whether care was surgical or non-surgical. For more than 25 years, his practice has incorporated periodontal endoscopy as a core component of non-surgical therapy. As hygienists gained the ability to directly visualize root surfaces, outcomes changed. Many patients with advanced periodontal disease achieved healing and long-term stability without surgery, redefining the hygienist’s role in periodontal care. Dr. Sheldon lectures nationally to dentists and hygienists and has been invited to speak at major professional meetings, including American Academy of Periodontology Annual Meetings, Seattle Study Club programs, and state periodontal societies. His work demonstrates that when hygienists are given the tools to see the root, they can change periodontal outcomes.
