Autonomous dental hygiene practice models are expanding across the United States as states adopt new regulations that allow dental hygienists to practice with greater independance. These models vary by state and may include public health-based autonomy, collaborative practice agreements, advanced practitioner roles, or independent becomign leaders, enterpreneurs, and practice owners who help expand access to preventive oral health care.
This two-hour course will begin by exploring current autonomous dental hygiene practice models and their impact on improving access to care. Participants will examine essential business condisderations for establishing and sustianing an independent or collaborative practice, as well as the role of teledentistry in supporting patient care and professional collaboration.
Building on this foundation, the course will then focus on evidence-based appraoches for the detection, prevention, and remineralization of dental caries using minimally invasive therapies within the dental hygiene scope of practice. By integrating these practice and clinical insights, this course is designed to empower dental hygiensists with practicial knowledge and skills to expand their role in delivering effective, preventive oral health care.
