Learning Objectives:

  1. Define public health and its application within the practice of dental hygiene.
  2. Identify oral health disparities and contributing social determinants.
  3. Explore current community-based prevention models.
  4. Discuss implantation of prevention-based strategies in both the public and private sectors of dental hygiene.

This course will explore the vital role dental hygienists play in improving oral health in their communities. Looking through the lens of public health initiatives, participants will learn to identify oral health disparities, integrate preventive strategies into community programs, and advocate for equitable care across all populations. We will also discuss how public health delivery of care differs from private practice, but also how they are similar
