Human trafficking is a hidden public health crisis occurring in every U.S. state, including your own community. This fast-growing crime affects individuals of all ages and backgrounds, often through coercion and manipulation that keeps them from seeking help. Research shows that up to 80% of victims interact with a healthcare provider while being trafficked—many in dental settings—yet the signs frequently go unnoticed.  Dental professionals are in a powerful position to make a difference. This advanced-level, interactive course equips clinicians to recognize red flags, communicate compassionately, and follow appropriate reporting protocols. Through engaging real-life case studies, attendees will learn how to distinguish between trafficking and other situations such as sex work and smuggling. Participants will explore how traffickers recruit victims, who is most at risk, and what physical, behavioral, and situational indicators to observe during dental visits.  This course also introduces the fundamentals of trauma-informed care, a vital approach that builds trust and safety for all patients, especially those who have experienced abuse or exploitation. Attendees will leave with the knowledge and tools to respond ethically and effectively, ensuring that their practice becomes part of the solution.  Whether you’ve never suspected trafficking in your practice or you’re eager to learn how to intervene appropriately, this course delivers the advanced knowledge and confidence dental professionals need to take action.
