Description

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe innovative periodontal instrument design features that support ergonomic health and impact the delivery of dental hygiene therapy
  • Demonstrate the fundamental skills of manual periodontal instrumentation.
  • Utilize evidence-based literature and reputable sources to support the use of a broad range of hand instrumentation.
  • Define and discuss ergonomic principles that can prevent musculoskeletal disorders commonly experienced by dental health professionals.

Do you ever look at a hand instrument and ask, “what am I supposed to do with this”? Do you ever feel like you are a contortionist performing in Cirque du Soleil to remove calculus? Do you ever feel like you can’t find the correct clock position because you “can’t go past 12 oclock?” Are you stuck “pushing and pulling” with your fingers because you forgot how to “rock and roll” with your wrist? If you identify with any of these statements, then this course is for you. In the absence of ultrasonic instrumentation, dental health care practitioners (DHCP) will need to feel confident in providing non-surgical periodontal treatment using hand instruments. This course will help you to master your instrumentation techniques, maximize your full clinical potential and unleash your inner scaling warrior.
