Description
  • Gain personal cultural awareness and learn how that may shape our ideas and opinions of others
  • Know more about other cultures and some of their ideas about dentistry
  • Recognize certain cultural stereotypes and the role they play in impeding optimal dental care
  • Be able to understand and utilize Hall's high and low context theory to more effectively communicate with patients from different cultural backgrounds

The ever changing demographics of the US as well as societal developments require oral care professionals to be both adaptable and culturally considerate. Without cultural awareness and sensitivity some of our interactions might act as barriers to care. Unfavorable experiences may prevent certain populations from receiving preventative dental care. Understanding, appreciation and effective communication with other cultures can help shape a positive experience for our patients and aid them in receiving the very best care.
