Dentistry, as we know, has changed, and so has our world. However, our patients' needs remain the same. As dental hygienists, we are on the front-line of providing care and cannot ignore the significant impact COVID-19 has had on our industry. Likewise, we also cannot ignore the need for greater diversity in dentistry. As primary care providers, we need to understand the importance of cultural competency and how it affects each one of our patients. Additionally, we should also be acutely aware of the socioeconomic and health disparities that hinder dental care in minority communities. As dental hygienists, we can take what we have learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and emerge more robust, better united as a profession, and further equipped to care for each every one of our patient.
