Date & Time
Saturday, July 18, 2020, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Dental professionals are well educated regarding the impact the oral microbiome has on the oral cavity. This area of knowledge is forever changing, and we now know oral bacteria is not contained to the mouth. Hearts, lungs, brains have all been shown to be affected by bacteria such as Klebsiella pneumonia, Fusobacterium species and H Pylori. The oral microbiome can be a confusing and scary place. An area that is underestimated and not widely understood, especially in dentistry, is the influence of the oral microbiome on the gut, and vice versa. Educating patients about the link between symptoms within the body and gut microbiome is powerful. While dental hygienists are tasked with sharing knowledge with patients, they are also an integral link between dentistry and medicine. This course will take attendees on a journey from the gums to the gut and beyond, all while discovering associations to common autoimmune diseases and chronic health conditions.
